GB V Prayer Journal: Week One
Sovereign God, my Heavenly Comfort,
In You, O, Lord is my redemption and in You alone is my freedom, for only a sinless God would stretch out His arms for me on the cross and beckon me to Him through gruesome death (Athanasius, 76). Why, my Father, did you suffer on Calvary so? Why was a death of horrors, the punishment of thieves, the heavy, rugged cross of sinful man Your final destination in Your earthly life? My mind cannot fathom the depths of Your love for me and it is times like these that I feel an insatiable hunger to know You, perhaps more than I am capable of. You very nature makes me tremble when I try to comprehend You; Your love is too great for me to reciprocate which leads me to guilt. I pray, Righteous Saviour, that You turn my guilt into unassailable peace and my trembling into Your heavenly joy that radiates itself through my life. I pray that You will grant me the patience I need in understanding Your nature. I know You are far too great for me to fully comprehend, Magnificent Author, but my heart longs to know You, and my soul cries out to know Your reasons for love so great. Perhaps such knowledge is too lofty for me, and if so, Father, grant me peace, comfort, and satisfaction in the mere fact that I am Your ransomed, redeemed, and tenderly beloved child. Knowledge of You will take time, that I know, for You do not expound Yourself to us at one time, but slowly, in the quiet moments of learning and growing (Chambers, 12). Grant me the longsuffering I need to wait upon You, my Brilliance, and offer me a resting place in the simple knowledge of Your selfless love, Your Agape. I thank You for a mind that seeks after You and a heart that wishes to do Your will. Quench my thirst for You, my God, and help me to love You more every day I live.
I remain Your faithful servant, lowly admirer, and student of Your Word.
Amen
